On the Domestication of Sheep
Animation
Jury's Choice • 2021
8 min
New York, NY, US
This animated film illustrates the process whereby wild animals are domesticated and turned into machines-in the case of sheep, wool, milk and meat machines gives precise instruction and gives precise instruction on how that is accomplished. It proposes that, historically, the domestication of wild animals was a model for human slavery and for the sexual subjugation of women... at first female captives, then wives and daughters. The film also contextualizes an "educational" film which teaches us how to appreciate, naively, the "gifts" that animals "give" us.
