"my favorite software is being here" is a part of Alison Nguyen's body of work centering on Andra8, a computer-generated woman based on the artist"s physicality. A piece of speculative fiction, the video tells the story of a simulacrum subaltern who has been created by an algorithm and raised by the Internet in isolation in a virtual void. From the apartment where she"s been placed, Andra8 survives through various forms of digital labor-working as a virtual assistant, a data cleanser, a content creator, and a life coach. Andra8 explores the implications of such an existence, and what arises when one attempts to subvert them.
